Dossier: The Duskwoods - Expanded Report

Prepared by Darius Quarterling, Spymaster of the Protectorate of Eastward
Field Updates Provided by Agent Rennick Vale

Updated Findings

Continued reconnaissance and field reports have provided critical updates on the Duskwoods' transformation. The supernatural disturbances are escalating, and new regions of concern have been identified. The patterns of spectral activity suggest an unknown intelligence guiding the unnatural occurrences. Further study is required before definitive conclusions can be made.

Newly Identified Locations of Interest

The Fading Path

  • A known entry point into the Hollow Weald, where strange, flickering lights are often sighted.
  • The remains of a desperate struggle—refugees who fled into the forest during the war met their end here, their bodies intermingled with those of pursuing Dragonborn soldiers.
  • Some of the bodies appear frozen in expressions of terror, their last moments etched in fear. Others show no obvious wounds, despite being lifeless.

The Hollow Weald

  • A lifeless section of the forest where the trees stand as pale husks, stripped of bark and leaves, as if drained of life itself.
  • Scattered remains of animals lie untouched by scavengers, their bodies preserved in eerie stillness.
  • Travelers have reported distorted time perception, blackouts, and visions of figures watching from the fog.
  • A deep sinkhole pulses with strange energy at the Weald's heart. Those who peer into it have reported unshakable feelings of being drawn in.

Grove of Echoes

  • A section of the Duskwood where the silence is absolute—no animals, no wind, nothing but the sound of one's own breath.
  • Ancient stone monoliths are half-buried beneath the roots of gnarled trees, their glyphs faded but still faintly glowing at night.
  • The Blackened Stag, a skeletal deer frozen mid-leap, has been discovered here. Contact with its remains has triggered visions of a robed figure standing beneath the stars.
  • Distortions in perception and memory are reported frequently by those passing through.

Additional Notes

  • Survivors from the deeper parts of the forest report an overwhelming sensation of being watched, even when alone.
  • Patterns in the movement of the lights suggest a deliberate attempt to lead travelers deeper rather than aimless wandering.
  • A recently discovered journal of a ranger describes unsettling encounters in the Duskwood, including references to 'the gaze that never blinks.' The entries suggest the ranger had been tracking the disturbances for some time before their sudden disappearance, with the final pages trailing off mid-thought.

Final Warning

The Duskwoods are no longer merely a hazardous zone—they are a region in active transformation. An unknown intelligence is at work, reshaping the land and its inhabitants in ways we do not yet fully comprehend.

All who enter should be prepared for an encounter with the unknown.
